Vishwakarma Day Celebrated with Devotion and Tradition

Vishwakarma Day captured the devotion of many across Jammu today. On this auspicious occasion, technical workers, artisans, and industrial staff paid homage to Lord Vishwakarma, the divine architect, by seeking blessings for safety, prosperity, and success in their professions.

Traditionally, workers observed a ‘no-work’ day, using the time to clean, service, and worship their tools and machines. This ritual stems from the belief that offering prayers to Lord Vishwakarma not only protects workers from accidents but also enhances the welfare of industries and organizations. Every year, Vishwakarma Day follows the grand festivities of Diwali.

The festivities at the Vishwakarma Sabha Temple Complex, Bakshi Nagar, Jammu, kicked off with a sacred Hawan and special prayers. Organized by the Vishwakarma Sabha, the event attracted numerous dignitaries, including Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma and MLA Jammu West Arvind Gupta. The presence of J&K BJP President Sat Sharma, former Vice Chairman (OBC) Kuldeep Raj Verma, and other notable figures underscored the significance of the day.

During the event, dignitaries highlighted Lord Vishwakarma’s invaluable contributions and legacy. They described him as the “divine engineer,” inspiring craftsmen, builders, and designers alike. The leaders appreciated the vital role of technical workers in nation-building and encouraged unity within the Vishwakarma community.

Under the leadership of Kuljeet Rai (Chairman, Vishwakarma Sabha) and Vijay Kumar (Vice Chairman), the programme unfolded seamlessly with contributions from Rattan Lal Changotra, Ashok Kumar, Om Parkash, Sanjay Kumar, and others.

Meanwhile, at the Vishwakarma Temple, New Plots, Jammu, a Hawan alongside a Bhajan Kirtan took place, supervised by Mohinder Lal (President of the Temple Committee).

Mohinder Lal, speaking during the celebrations, reiterated the longstanding campaign to officially declare Vishwakarma Day as a Gazetted Holiday. He emphasized that, “every worker already observes an undeclared holiday on this day.” In supporting this initiative, Ramesh Angotra stressed the need for the government to acknowledge the cultural and industrial significance of this day by granting it official holiday status.

The event culminated in a Langer (community feast) organized for devotees, delighting attendees with a traditional meal. The organizing committee included dedicated members like Rattan Lal, Joginder Angotra, Pappu Virdhi, Vishal Angotra, Kunal Angotra, and Jitender Jajua, demonstrating the cohesive spirit of community involvement.
