The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to the Centre and the Jharkhand state government regarding a plea for a comprehensive investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Preliminary Examination.
This decision came as a bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V Mohana sought a response from the Union of India, the Jharkhand government, and the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC).
Senior advocate Manan Kumar Mishra, representing the petitioner, expressed concerns over the integrity of the examination process. He urged for either a CBI inquiry or an investigation led by a former judge of the Supreme Court.
The bench heard the petition filed by activist Harisharan Devgan, through advocate Satyam Singh Rajput, highlighting serious implications for the public.
“The present writ petition under Article 32 of the Constitution of India comes in public interest, seeking urgent intervention over substantial concerns related to the integrity, fairness, transparency, and credibility of the Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025,” the petition stated.
This examination was conducted by the JPSC following Advertisement No. 01/2026 on April 19, 2026. Allegations of mismanagement and corruption have surfaced, raising questions about the examination’s reliability.
While the court awaits comprehensive responses, the plea underscores growing public demand for accountability in recruiting processes that shape state governance.
The implications of this case may extend beyond Jharkhand, potentially influencing similar proceedings across India, as the public increasingly calls for transparency in government examinations.
