Bhaderwah, : Following predictions by the Meteorological Department, Bhaderwah and other areas of Chenab Valley have been witnessing torrential rains since early morning, leading to a sharp rise in the water levels of rivers and nallahs. The situation has reignited fear among residents, who recall the recent devastating spells of weather.

Authorities have issued an advisory urging people to remain indoors and avoid venturing near water bodies, warning that the next 24 hours will be crucial. In view of the IMD advisory and prevailing weather conditions, the Bhaderwah administration has ordered closure of the Bhaderwah–Chamba Interstate Highway until further notice.

The Neeru River, Halian Nallah, and several other streams are flowing above normal levels. Continuous downpours have also triggered landslides in hilly belts, forcing the closure of all government and private schools across Chenab Valley today.

ADC Bhaderwah, Sunil Kumar Bhutiyal, said, “We are monitoring the situation closely. Control rooms are active, and all departments are on alert to respond quickly to any emergency.”

Rescue and response teams remain on standby, while authorities have urged citizens, particularly those in vulnerable areas, to stay cautious and avoid unstable slopes and swollen water bodies.

In view of continuous heavy rainfall, the administration has ordered the closure of the Bhaderwah-Chamba interstate road with immediate effect. The move comes amid persistent downpours that have triggered multiple landslides and shooting stones along the interstate road from Thanalla to Padri areas, posing a serious threat to public safety.

ADC Bhaderwah Sunil Kumar Bhutiyal said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident. The road have become unsafe due to road blockages caused by continuous slope failures and loose debris.

The administration has appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary travel on the road until further notice.
