Two Young Sons Receive the Tricolour, Carrying Forward a Martyr’s Legacy.

Kishtwar: In a heart-wrenching yet proud moment that captured the soul of the nation, Dheeraj and Rahul, the young sons of Martyr Havildar Gajendra Singh of the elite PARA Special Forces, received the Indian National Flag, carrying forward the timeless legacy of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism left behind by their father.
Havildar Gajendra Singh laid down his life while gallantly fighting terrorists during the Chatroo–Singpora encounter in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, on the intervening night of 18–19 January 2026. He attained Veergati while executing a high-risk counter-terrorism operation in one of the most challenging terrains of the region.
As the Tricolour was handed over to Dheeraj and Rahul, silence fell—broken only by salutes and tear-filled eyes. The flag symbolized not only a nation’s gratitude, but the unbreakable bond between a soldier and the country he serves, even beyond death.
According to official sources, the operation was launched following credible intelligence about terrorist presence in the dense forest belts of Singpora and adjoining areas. During intense firing, six soldiers of 2 PARA SF were injured, with some rejoining the operation after first aid, while others were evacuated for advanced treatment. Havildar Gajendra Singh, separated from his team during heavy night-long firing, was located the next morning with critical bullet injuries and later succumbed to his wounds.
The Indian Army and White Knight Corps paid glowing tributes to the Braveheart, describing his sacrifice as a shining example of the highest traditions of the force. His courage under fire and devotion to duty ensured the momentum of the operation even in the face of grave danger.
For Dheeraj and Rahul, the Tricolour now stands as both a symbol of loss and honor—a reminder that their father lived and died for the nation. In their young hands rests not just a flag, but the legacy of a soldier whose valor will echo through generations.
The nation bows in respect.
