Srinagar Shivers: Coldest Night This Winter at -2.1°C

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, experienced a frigid night as temperatures dropped to minus 2.1°C on November 14, marking the coldest night of this winter season. Reports from the Meteorological (MeT) Department confirm this significant dip in temperature.

In the Kashmir Valley, Pahalgam emerged as the coldest location, recording a chilling minus 3.8°C. This weather pattern signifies the arrival of harsh winter conditions across the region.

Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the MeT, pointed out that the region should expect dry weather for at least a week. He stated, “There is no forecast of any wet spell for the next one week, and the night temperatures are likely to remain unchanged till November 17.”

He further noted a potential slight increase in night temperatures after November 17, possibly lasting two to three days, which could offer some relief to residents enduring the biting cold.

The drop in mercury levels has resulted in frost formation in parts of Srinagar and various other areas throughout the Valley during early morning hours. Residents now witness a beautiful yet frosty landscape, as trees and rooftops glisten with frost, marking the true start of winter.

The harsh winter temperatures also ignite concerns among the local population, especially those with no proper heating facilities. Many families take precautions to stay warm, layering clothes and using traditional heating methods.

The challenging weather conditions can impact daily life and agriculture, prompting local authorities to take necessary measures for the welfare of the citizens. With the winter chill officially here, residents are advised to stay updated on weather advisories and prepare for an extended cold spell.

Overall, Srinagar’s recent temperature decline is part of a broader trend affecting the Kashmir Valley, where residents brace themselves for the coldest months ahead.
