Republic Day Celebrations in Doda Ignore Sacrifice of Martyr Jawans


Doda, Jan 27:- The failure of the district administration to acknowledge the sacrifice of fallen soldiers on Republic Day has sparked widespread concern and disappointment among the people of Doda.


It is deeply regrettable that on the day when the entire nation celebrated the 77th Republic Day with patriotic fervour, no official condolences or tribute was paid to the ten brave Army jawans who laid down their lives at Khanni Top in the Bhaderwah area of Doda district.


The tragic accident, in which ten soldiers were martyred and eleven others injured while on duty, had shaken the entire region. However, during the official Republic Day celebrations in Doda, their supreme sacrifice went largely unacknowledged. Notably, even a two-minute silence to honour the fallen heroes was missing from the programme.


This silence has raised serious questions among local residents and civil society, who termed it a disturbing oversight on a national occasion meant to honour the Constitution and those who protect it.


Many have expressed the view that Republic Day celebrations should reflect not only festivity but also remembrance and respect for the nation’s martyrs.
