Fearless Voting in West Bengal, Says PM Modi During Polls

Prime Minister Narendra Modi noted on Wednesday that voters in West Bengal now exercise their right to vote in a “fearless atmosphere,” a contrast to previous decades, especially the last six or seven.

Modi’s comments came as voting unfolded in 142 constituencies during the second and final phase of the assembly elections, with results expected on May 4. He stated that this day’s events would contribute to strengthening the resolve for a developed India.

Addressing a public gathering following the inauguration of the Ganga Expressway, he highlighted that today represents a crucial moment in India’s democratic journey.

“Voting for the second phase is underway in Bengal, and reports indicate a massive turnout. Citizens are stepping out in great numbers, much like they did in the first phase. Images of long queues at polling stations are flooding social media, showing the enthusiastic participation of the people in exercising their democratic right,” he remarked.

Modi emphasized that the current voting climate in West Bengal is unprecedented. He reflected on the earlier fears that often shackled voters, noting, “What we are witnessing in Bengal today is unimaginable, a fearless environment where people are voting without apprehension.”

The Prime Minister hailed this transformation as a powerful symbol of the nation’s Constitution and the deepening of democracy in the country.

“I express my gratitude to the great people of Bengal for being so aware of their rights and participating in large numbers,” he added. This acknowledgment underscores the crucial role of voters in shaping India’s democratic landscape.
