Disaster Preparedness Meeting Held in Gool for Monsoon Safety

RAMBAN, JULY 08: Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Imtiaz chaired a vital Sub-Division Level Disaster Management and Coordination Meeting in Gool. The meeting focused on reviewing disaster preparedness amidst impending natural hazards.

Officials from multiple departments were present, including Tehsildar Harjeet Singh, SDPO Kuldeep Raj, and representatives from health, public works, and police departments. This collaboration aimed to ensure swift and effective relief measures for floods, landslides, and cloudbursts projected during the monsoon.

During the meeting, participants conducted a thorough review of the existing disaster management plans. They examined the availability of personnel and machinery, alongside checking stockpiles of essential commodities. Communication systems and control room operations were also scrutinized to enhance coordination between departments.

With the onset of the monsoon season, the SDM directed all departments to maintain a heightened state of alert. Continuous monitoring of regions particularly susceptible to landslides and flash floods remains imperative. This proactive approach seeks to minimize risks associated with natural calamities.

The SDM urged the Jal Shakti, PWD, and PMGSY departments to pinpoint vulnerable locations. They must prepare restoration teams and machinery for quick responses to emergencies. “We cannot afford a lapse in readiness,” stated the SDM, emphasizing the urgency of these preparations.

Furthermore, the Health department must ensure adequate supplies of medicines and ambulances at Community Health Centre (CHC) Gool and Primary Health Centres (PHCs). The FCS&CA department was obligated to maintain a buffer stock of rations. The PDD received directives to establish backup power supply arrangements.

The SDM also instructed Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars to make routine visits to disaster-prone areas. They are to keep current lists of these vulnerable spots and create public awareness regarding safety measures during emergencies.

Community involvement plays a crucial role in disaster management. The SDM called for locals to actively disseminate information about protective measures to follow during disasters. Cooperation among residents can significantly enhance the community’s resilience.

Both the police and the 23 RR were tasked to support rescue and evacuation efforts should emergencies arise. Additionally, representatives from Beacon were directed to ensure the quick restoration of roads in the event of blockages caused by natural hazards.

“The safety of lives and property remains our highest priority,” SDM Imtiaz affirmed. Emphasizing the importance of swift responses, effective coordination, and community cooperation, he reassured that the administration stands ready to address any situation stemming from natural disasters.
