Congress Critiques PM Modi Over Rising Unemployment Issues

The Congress party on Thursday sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the escalating unemployment crisis in India, asserting that he has been “always in election mode.” The party highlighted the disturbing statistic of India’s unemployment rate rising to 7.5% in October 2025—the highest in six months—drawing attention to the government’s lack of solutions.

Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, stated, “The past 11 years of misrule under the Modi government have adversely affected every section of society.” He emphasized the distress among students, youth, farmers, labourers, and businessmen, noting an alarming rise in inflation and a declining rupee value.

In a post on X, Ramesh expressed grave concerns about the widening gap between the rich and poor, which worsens the plight of middle-class and underprivileged families. He highlighted that “rising unemployment has become a matter of grave concern” amid these challenges.

Using data from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), he revealed that millions have lost their jobs across various sectors. He stated that over 90 lakh individuals faced unemployment in the construction industry alone. Moreover, the salaried job sector saw a decline of 25 lakh positions, showcasing the extensive job losses.

“Alarming figures have emerged year after year over the past 11 years,” Ramesh asserted, yet it seems the government remains oblivious to the pressing issues. He accused Prime Minister Modi of neglecting the youth, claiming he is “busy crafting new speeches to distract the public instead of confronting the unemployment crisis.”

The Congress party has consistently claimed that the government mishandled the economy. With rising prices, diminishing private investment, and stagnating wages, ordinary citizens feel the strain. Ramesh urged the government to prioritize real economic reforms and job creation rather than focusing solely on “propaganda and political rhetoric.”

The ongoing criticisms from the Congress come as India grapples with significant economic challenges, leading to widespread frustration among the populace. The party aims to rally public sentiment, pushing for accountability and actionable change from the ruling government.
