This incident followed an ongoing spell of moderate to heavy rainfall across the region. Although multiple residential buildings faced considerable ruin, authorities have reported no casualties or injuries to date.
As soon as the cloudburst triggered a flash surge of water and debris, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Chatroo, along with police and civil administration teams, swiftly arrived at the site. They initiated damage assessments and relief measures, ensuring swift response amid the chaos.
The Meteorological Department had anticipated this adverse weather, issuing warnings for intense showers across Jammu division and neighbouring areas. Their alerts suggested heightened risks of flash floods, landslides, and waterlogging in particularly vulnerable locations.
Simultaneously, heavy rainfall led to significant waterlogging in the Pahlipora area of Shopian district in south Kashmir. Reports indicated that rainwater inundated several houses, prompting authorities to mobilize police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) for rescue and relief operations.
In light of these recent developments, authorities urged residents, especially those residing in low-lying and landslide-prone areas, to remain vigilant. They advised against venturing near streams, nallahs, and unstable inclines until weather conditions improve.
