Sudden Rise in Water Level Causes Panic at Under-Construction 624 MW Kwar Power Project in Kishtwar

The Alert News 27/May/2025

A sudden surge in water levels triggered by heavy rainfall in the upper reaches created havoc at the under-construction 624 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Power Project in Kishtwar District earlier today. The alarming rise in river flow caused panic among construction workers present at the site, many of whom had a narrow escape.

The workers were reportedly shell-shocked upon witnessing the massive and unexpected rush of water, which disrupted ongoing construction activities. Swift action and timely alertness by the site management and workers ensured that no casualties or injuries occurred.

Authorities have confirmed that there has been no loss of life or any type of injury reported so far. However, the incident has raised concerns regarding safety protocols and preparedness during adverse weather conditions at such high-risk construction sites.

Further assessment of the situation is underway, and officials are monitoring the water levels closely. The public is advised to stay away from riverbanks and construction areas until the situation stabilizes.
