LoP Sunil Sharma Accuses Pakistan of Betraying India’s Peace Efforts

Jammu, Mar 17  Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Monday slammed Pakistan for its continued backing of militancy despite India’s repeated diplomatic initiatives aimed at fostering regional peace.

Speaking to reporters, Sharma highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s long-standing commitment to maintaining amicable relations with neighboring countries. He pointed to Modi’s invitation to then-Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for his 2014 swearing-in ceremony as a symbolic move underscoring India’s preference for dialogue over conflict.

“PM Modi has always upheld the principle of peaceful coexistence. His invitation to Nawaz Sharif in 2014 was a clear signal that India prioritizes good relations over hostility,” Sharma stated.

However, he accused Pakistan of repeatedly undermining India’s goodwill by supporting militancy. Referring to attacks in Pathankot and Uri, Sharma said that Islamabad has continued its “double standards,” using terror as a tool against India.

“Pakistan’s track record of deceit is well-known. Despite India’s outreach, it persisted in its militant agenda. The surgical strikes and airstrikes carried out under PM Modi’s leadership were a strong response to Pakistan’s provocations. His zero-tolerance policy on militancy has significantly weakened terror networks in Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.

Sharma emphasized that Modi’s leadership has led to a sharp decline in local militant recruitment, with security forces successfully eliminating foreign militants.

“The impact of this policy is visible today. The recruitment of local youth into militancy has drastically reduced, and foreign terrorists are being neutralized effectively. The Prime Minister has reiterated that while India seeks peace, any form of terrorism will be dealt with firmly,” Sharma asserted
