The Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo, inaugurated the Annual Sports Meet-2025 at the Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar today. The two-day event took place at the Boys Hostel playground in Bemina, attracting a diverse audience of students and faculty.
Addressing the enthusiastic gathering, Minister Itoo underscored the important connection between physical and mental well-being of healthcare professionals. She highlighted how engaging in sports positively influences the quality of healthcare delivery, enhancing productivity among medical practitioners. During her speech, Itoo urged the GMC administration to upgrade the Boys Hostel playground facilities. The Annual Sports Meet-2025, meticulously planned and organized under the leadership of Chairman Sports Committee Dr. Salim Iqbal, boasts an array of sporting events. From traditional games like cricket, volleyball, and football to indoor sports such as badminton, table tennis, and carrom, the event engages students in diverse physical activities. Competitive track and field events, including 100m, 200m, 400m, relays, shot put, javelin throw, and discus throw, promise to be thrilling highlights.
The fun games segment brings out a lively spirit, featuring matka races, sack races, and spoon and egg races. These games promote camaraderie among participants while emphasizing the need for holistic well-being.
