Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra firmly opposed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists proposed by the Election Commission (EC) in Kerala on Wednesday. During her two-day visit to Wayanad constituency, she voiced the Congress party’s unified stance against the revision both inside and outside Parliament.
Priyanka Gandhi accused the Election Commission of attempting to manipulate electoral rolls through the SIR process. “The Election Commission plans to execute SIR in many states, including Kerala, and we will strongly oppose it,” she said. She referred to the party’s previous resistance in Parliament regarding its application in Bihar.
“This method represents the only way of committing fraud and cheating in the election,” she asserted, raising concerns about the implications for democracy. Priyanka emphasized that the implementation of SIR in Bihar illustrates a troubling pattern. She described it as detrimental to the democratic process.
“We have seen what happened in Bihar. If they plan to enact this strategy in additional states, we must fight against it as an affront to democracy,” she remarked firmly.
Earlier in the day, Priyanka inaugurated the newly constructed Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Government Ayurveda Dispensary in Ernad, Malappuram district, which is part of her constituency. Her visit comes as she engages with local leaders and inaugurates various development projects, amplifying her commitment to the region.
Upon arrival at Karipur airport, she proceeded to Wayanad by road. During her time in the constituency, she is set to unveil several initiatives aimed at enhancing local infrastructure and services, further connecting with the electorate.
The situation surrounding the Election Commission’s proposed SIR in Kerala has sparked significant political debate. **Political analysts** suggest that opposition parties are poised to consolidate efforts against any perceived voter manipulation, particularly in the wake of the upcoming elections. **Experts** warn that any disruption or irregularities in the electoral process may provoke widespread backlash from the electorate.
As the political climate heats up, Congress leaders encourage public discourse around the issue, urging citizens to be vigilant about the integrity of the electoral system. Priyanka Gandhi’s stance against the Special Revision of Voter Lists highlights the party’s commitment to protecting democratic principles.
