Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah approved a significant used water management project on Thursday. This initiative includes a crucial Rs 19.99 crore sewage treatment plant for Ganderbal town, located in central Kashmir. The primary goal of this project is to ensure proper treatment of used water, maintain clean rivers, and enhance public health and sanitation.
The Office of the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir announced this decision in a post on social media platform X. Abdullah emphasized that the project will address the long-standing issue of waste water management in the region, which is critical for both environmental sustainability and community health.
In addition to the sewage treatment plant, the J&K government has also greenlit a scheme aimed at introducing heritage courses under the skill development department. This effort aims to revive and promote traditional crafts in the region.
The new scheme proposes the revival of seven traditional craft courses through 25 units located in government ITIs and polytechnics. The initiative offers an intake capacity for 500 students, which highlights the government’s commitment to fostering vocational training.
Each trainee will receive stipends, while instructors will earn an honorarium, ensuring that both students and educators benefit financially from their participation. The government described this initiative as a crucial step toward preserving Kashmir’s cultural heritage while simultaneously promoting skill-based livelihoods.
