The National Foundation for Journalism & Media (NFJM) inaugurated its first Press and Media Centre in Jammu on September 24, 2023, to strengthen the landscape of responsible journalism.
This new hub, located at F-1/8C, Trikuta Shopping Complex, B.C. Road, Jammu, aims to foster fair reporting and community engagement. Dr. Tahir Rufayee, the Chairman of NFJM, led the inauguration in the presence of local media professionals, journalists, and members of the community.
Dr. Rufayee underscored the significance of the Centre, stating, “This Press & Media Centre will serve as a hub for fair reporting, informed public engagement, and responsible journalism. NFJM is committed to strengthening democratic values through truthful and ethical media practices.”
The establishment of the Press and Media Centre marks a pivotal step in enhancing journalistic standards in Jammu. The Centre is designed to support a range of activities including news reporting and publications, press conferences, media briefings, research and analysis, as well as public engagements. This facility aims to create a professional platform where journalists and media practitioners can collaborate effectively.
As responsible journalism becomes increasingly critical, especially in the current socio-political climate, the NFJM’s initiative resonates with the need for transparent and accountable media practices. This is crucial for fostering public trust in media outlets.
S. Harjeet Singh, the driving force behind this initiative, reiterated the necessity for such platforms in his inaugural remarks. He emphasized the importance of providing journalists with the resources they need to operate within a framework of ethical standards.
Furthermore, the Centre intends to facilitate ongoing educational programs and workshops aimed at enhancing skills among future journalists, thereby ushering in a new era of conscientious reporting in the region.
The Press and Media Centre is expected to play a significant role in bridging the gap between the media and the public, allowing for a more informed society where citizens can access reliable news and information.
With the NFJM’s commitment to ethical journalism, this inauguration marks not just the launch of a facility, but a deeper commitment to support the media ecosystem that is vital to a functioning democracy. As we move forward, the community looks forward to engaging with this Centre and reaping the benefits of enhanced media practices.
