Inter Zonal District Level Athletics Meet for AAG Girls Kicks Off

The Inter Zonal District Level Athletics Competition for All Age Group (AAG) Girls commenced today at the University of Jammu. Organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), District Jammu, this event aims to promote athletic talent among young girls.

On the opening day, approximately 300 girl athletes signed up to display their skills in a series of track and field events. Participants hailed from various government and private schools, showcasing enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the day.

In the U-19 discus throw event, Sweety Devi from Zone Marh clinched the gold medal, while Konika Chib (Zone RS Pura) and Renu (Zone Bishnah) took home silver and bronze, respectively. In the U-17 category, Nidhi Verma (Zone Satwari) emerged victorious, followed closely by Kiran Kumari (Zone Bhalwal) and Nirjala (Zone Bishnah).

The U-14 discus throw saw Subhana (Zone Satwari) achieving gold, with Sonakshi (Zone Miran Sahib) and Mansi (Zone Akhnoor) securing silver and bronze positions.

In the highly competitive 100m races, Damanpreet (Zone Bishnah) took gold in the U-14 category, while Nishta Sharma (Zone Jammu) and Shivani (Zone Jammu) dominated the U-17 and U-19 categories respectively.

For the 400m events, Sahiba Choudhary (Zone Dansal) emerged as the winner in the U-14 category, while Nishta Sharma (Zone Jammu) once again showcased her talent by winning in the U-17 category.

In the 300m race, top performance came from Mehak (Zone Jammu) in the U-19 category, with Sonia Choudhary (Zone Dansal) standing out in the U-17.

Events like the high jump showcased extraordinary talent, with Shriya Bhagat (U-14, Zone Chowki Choura), Rohika Devi (U-17, Zone Chowki Choura), and Payal Kumari (U-19, Zone Chowki Choura) each winning gold medals, highlighting the skills of these young athletes.

The District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Jammu, along with technical officials Nirmal Singh, Chamel Singh, Sarabjeet Singh, Vijay Sharma, Harsimran Singh, and others, presented medals to the top performers, applauding their hard work and dedication.

They emphasized the importance of values such as dedication, discipline, team spirit, and sportsmanship, encouraging all participants to uphold these ideals throughout the tournament.
