Doda Police successfully solved a motorcycle theft case within 48 hours, arresting two suspects in connection with the crime. The police acted on a complaint lodged by the victim, Omair Ullah Wani, whose motorcycle was stolen on November 5, 2025, from the Jathi area.
Upon receiving the report, Police Station Assar registered FIR No. 37/2025 under Section 302(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Following directives from SSP Doda, Shri Sandeep Mehta (JKPS), a specialized team led by PSI Shivam Dev Singh initiated an immediate investigation.
On November 6, police detained two suspects after sustaining leads from the initial inquiry. During questioning, both individuals confessed to stealing the motorcycle in the early hours of October 26. Thanks to their rapid efforts, the police recovered the motorcycle from their possession.
The arrested suspects are:
- Mohd Tariq @ Baffer, S/o Mohd Aslam, R/o Bhagtha, Katra, District Reasi — a habitual offender and absconder.
- Munish Kumar, S/o Mansa Ram, R/o Bali Chanalra Bhalesa, District Doda.
Authorities revealed that Mohd Tariq @ Baffer had a long history of criminal behaviour, wanted in multiple cases across various states and districts. His extensive record includes charges related to theft, burglary, and drug-related offences. Notably, he has been involved in over a dozen FIRs registered against him since 2013, spanning several jurisdictions, including Reasi and Kangra.
To combat such criminal elements, law enforcement had previously issued a general warrant of arrest against Tariq under Section 512 of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.PC) after evading the police for an extended period.
The professionalism and quick response of Doda Police underscore their commitment to ensuring public safety. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) DAR Doda, along with the team from Police Station Assar, demonstrated effective policing practices in securing the arrests and the prompt recovery of the stolen property.
SSP Doda Shri Sandeep Mehta (JKPS) emphasized, “Doda Police is committed to taking decisive action against repeat offenders and criminal elements involved in theft and other unlawful activities. Our swift investigations and timely actions will continue to be our priorities for ensuring the safety and security of our citizens.”
The police’s quick resolution of the theft case not only brings relief to the victim but also sends a strong message to other potential offenders regarding the effectiveness of law enforcement in Doda district.
