Doda, March 31, 2026:
Continuing its sustained efforts to curb the drug menace, Doda Police apprehended a suspected drug peddler during routine naka checking at Baggar Naka on March 31, 2026.
On the directions of *SSP Doda Sh. Sandeep Mehta (JKPS)*, a police team deployed at the naka, under the supervision of DySP DAR Doda and SHO Assar, intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK02BJ0087 for checking. During inspection, one of the passengers attempted to conceal his identity upon noticing the police presence, which aroused suspicion among the naka party. Acting swiftly, the police team apprehended the individual for further verification. The accused was identified as Aquib Farooq, S/O Farooq Ahmed, resident of Khelani, Doda.
During initial checking, a light green polythene bag was recovered from the trouser pocket of the accused. The bag contained a heroin-like substance wrapped in transparent polythene. Upon conducting a detailed personal search, approximately 07 grams of the contraband substance were recovered. The substance was weighed on the spot using an electronic weighing machine and was confirmed to be 07 grams.
In this connection, a case FIR No. 05/2026 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Assar, and further investigation is underway.
*SSP Doda* reiterated the firm commitment of the police to eliminate the drug menace from the district and appealed to the general public to cooperate and share any information related to drug trafficking.
