Delhi’s Air Quality Remains Poor Amid Rising Pollution Levels

New Delhi: On November 1, Delhi’s air quality continued to linger in the ‘poor’ category, with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) rising to 251 from 218 the previous day, according to data provided by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Authorities report that AQI readings at eight monitoring stations registered a ‘very poor’ quality level, intensifying concerns over public health. Environmental experts caution that these conditions may pose serious health risks to vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly.

Among these troubling statistics, Wazirpur stood out, recording the highest AQI of 333, marking a significant concern in an already dire air quality scenario. The CPCB’s Sameer app continues to be the primary resource for real-time data concerning air pollution.

Residents have begun to express frustration over the persistent pollution, with many calling for immediate government action. Experts recommend that individuals limit outdoor activities, especially during peak pollution hours, to mitigate health impacts. High levels of pollutants can lead to respiratory issues and other serious health complications.

Moreover, atmospheric conditions such as low wind speed and temperature inversions are aggravating the situation, trapping pollutants close to the ground. Authorities urge compliance with environmental regulations and stress the importance of public awareness in fighting air pollution.

The CPCB emphasizes the necessity of proactive measures, including stricter emissions controls and promotion of sustainable practices among industries and vehicle users. Adaptation of cleaner technologies and alternative fuels could improve air quality over time.

As winter approaches, the situation may worsen, drawing parallels with previous years. Stakeholders must engage in collaborative efforts, combining governmental regulations with community initiatives to address this pressing challenge effectively.
