Farooq Abdullah: Operation Sindoor Effective, But War Brings Misery

In a press conference on Wednesday, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah discussed the implications of ‘Operation Sindoor’, stating it has indeed produced results. However, he stressed that “wars do not bring a solution, they just bring misery”. Abdullah made these remarks at the party’s headquarters, emphasizing the dire outcomes of global conflicts.

Reflecting on the devastating impacts of ongoing wars, Abdullah highlighted the destructive situations in Ukraine and the Middle East. He stated, “Look at Ukraine and the destruction there, look at the Middle East. It will take Qatar a year or two to restore gas supplies.” His comments underscore the need for peaceful resolutions to conflicts that lead only to heightened suffering.

Responding to inquiries regarding tensions in the Gulf region, Abdullah reiterated that the world is not prepared for war. “The world isn’t ready for war,” he asserted, drawing attention to the current economic downturn affecting nations globally. He cautioned, “If pressure continues, the situation in the world will be so bad that it will be difficult to survive.”

On the subject of recent assembly elections, Abdullah conveyed a neutral viewpoint. “How will I see, I see it like you are seeing. The results have come…” he remarked, indicating an awareness of the contentious political landscape, particularly in Bengal where Mamata Banerjee claimed large-scale rigging. “Congress won in Kerala, the BJP won in Assam. What else is there?” he added, summarizing the electoral outcomes without bias.

When addressing the impact of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls on recent elections, Abdullah acknowledged, “There was an impact of everything.” He affirmed the strength of the opposition INDIA bloc, asserting its readiness to challenge the governing parties.

As discussions veered towards the security situation in Punjab, where explosions have disrupted peace, Abdullah stated that such blasts have occurred previously, dismissing them as a cause for concern. “You should not panic,” he advised reporters, maintaining a steady tone amidst rising tensions.

Finally, addressing the critiques laid against the NC government in Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah welcomed the opposition’s scrutiny. “If they don’t, how will they survive?” he questioned, asserting his party’s commitment to its agenda in response. “Let them say what they want. Our party is working the way it has to, and we will continue to do so,” he concluded, affirming his confidence amidst political adversity.
