In a remarkable display of skill and determination, Jammu and Kashmir’s cricket team, led by Auqib Nabi, achieved a historic innings victory over Rajasthan in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group-A match held at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium today. This triumph stands as a testament to J&K’s growing dominance in domestic cricket.
Resuming their second innings at a precarious score of 41 for 5, Rajasthan’s hopes of a fight-back quickly vanished thanks to Nabi’s unrelenting pace and pinpoint accuracy. He delivered a phenomenal bowling spell, claiming 7 wickets for just 24 runs in 11 overs, demonstrating exceptional control over seam and swing. The Rajasthan batters struggled to cope with his probing line, leading to their dramatic downfall.
J&K’s bowlers orchestrated a complete collapse of the Rajasthan batting order, which finished their innings on a meager total of 89 runs. Support from Yudhvir Singh was significant as he picked up 2 wickets for 33 runs in 8.5 overs and effectively co-ordinated with Nabi to dismantle the opposition.
Amid a quick succession of wickets, Deepak Hooda and Deepak Chahar provided the only resistance with scores of 28 and 26, respectively. However, the duo could not turn the tide against the relentless pressure exerted by the Jammu and Kashmir bowlers.
Nabi’s exceptional all-round performance earned him the coveted Player of the Match award. His heroics not only highlighted his personal excellence but also cemented J&K’s rising stature in the competitive arena of Indian cricket.
Following the match, BCCI President Mithun Manhas expressed his delight, stating, “This victory is a cornerstone in our development, emphasizing the growing strength of Jammu and Kashmir cricket.” Brig Anil Gupta, Member (Administration) of the JKCA, echoed this sentiment, calling it a “landmark achievement” that reflects the hard work and dedication of the team and its management.
This match has been a significant milestone in J&K’s cricketing history, reinforcing the region’s commitment to excelling and making its mark on the national stage. The victory resonates not just as a win in a match but as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring cricketers across the union territory.
