IAF Chief Confirms Destruction of 4-5 Pakistani F-16s in Operation Sindoor

Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, confirmed on Friday that 4 to 5 Pakistani fighter jets, likely F-16s, were destroyed on the ground in a decisive military action dubbed Operation Sindoor.

During a press conference in New Delhi, Singh elaborated that the IAF executed precision strikes on various Pakistani airbases, resulting in significant damage to military infrastructure including radars, command centres, runways, and hangars. Furthermore, a surface-to-air missile (SAM) system suffered destruction, along with reports of a C-130-class transport aircraft and potentially a high-value surveillance plane also being targeted.

“We struck a large number of their airfields and installations…radars at four places, command centres at two locations, two runways, and three hangars were destroyed. We have evidence of one C-130 aircraft being hit, and at least 4–5 fighters, most likely F-16s, which were under maintenance at that time,” the Air Chief Marshal stated.

Singh further emphasized the strategic advantage gained during the operation, revealing that the IAF utilized newly procured long-range SAMs. This development prevented the Pakistan Air Force from effectively conducting operations within its own airspace. Notably, this operation marked a historic milestone — achieving the longest successful missile strike of over 300 kilometres, which severely hampered Pakistan’s capability to respond effectively.

Describing the operation as a decisive and time-bound success, Singh remarked, “This was a war started with a clear objective and concluded swiftly once our goals were achieved. Unlike prolonged global conflicts, India demonstrated that clarity and precision can force an adversary to seek a ceasefire.”

Addressing ongoing conflicts worldwide, he noted that this experience should serve as a critical lesson for the world, particularly in the context of current international wars that seem to lack resolution.

Operation Sindoor showcases India’s intent and capability to safeguard its national interests through measured and effective military operations. It underlines the IAF’s readiness to implement striking tactics that not only incapacitate enemy capabilities but also convey a broader message of deterrence to potential adversaries.
