Good People Shying Away From Politics: Ex-President Kovind

Former President Ramnath Kovind expressed concern on Thursday about the apathy of “good people” towards politics, urging the youth to actively engage in the nation’s political framework. He spoke as the chief guest at the annual Vijayadashmi rally hosted by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at Reshimbagh ground in Nagpur.

Kovind highlighted the foundational contributions of RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar in shaping his personal values. He praised the ideals of national unity and social harmony that both figures advocated, which have guided him throughout his life.

He stated, “I was inspired by the values of national unity and social harmony shared by Dr. Ambedkar and Dr. Hedgewar. There is no casteism and discrimination in RSS,” underlining the inclusive philosophy of the organization.

Moreover, Kovind emphasized that the thoughts of Hedgewar helped him gain a clearer understanding of society and the nation. He lamented the absence of well-meaning individuals in political positions, asserting that their participation is crucial in fostering a resilient democracy.

“Good people need to step up and join the political movement,” he urged, appealing particularly to young people. The former president believes that their fresh perspectives and unwavering spirit can positively influence the political landscape.

In addition to his call to action, Kovind shared plans for his upcoming book, titled ‘Triumph of the Indian Republic’, promising insights that align with his vision for India’s political future.

The Vijayadashmi rally not only served as a platform for Kovind’s message but also marked the centenary celebrations of the RSS, originally founded by Hedgewar on Dussehra in 1925. This event emphasized the organization’s historical significance and enduring influence on Indian society.

As the 2024 elections approach, Kovind’s reflections resonate with many citizens who seek a revival of integrity and commitment in Indian politics. His call for participation might inspire a wave of change as the youth take up crucial roles in shaping India’s governance.
