On Monday, the police in Kashmir seized over one kilogram of charas and arrested two individuals involved in drug trafficking during separate operations in Shopian and Budgam districts. This significant recovery reflects the authorities’ ongoing crackdown on illegal drug activities in the region.
Acting on specific intelligence, the police registered FIR No. 77/2025 under the NDPS Act at the Police Station Zainapora. With a search warrant secured from the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shopian, officers launched a raid on the residence of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh, a suspect from Humhuna Nagbal. During the search, officials discovered one kilogram of a charas-like substance along with a grinder machine suspected to have been used for processing drugs.
“The accused remains at large, and efforts are underway to apprehend him,” police stated.
In a follow-up operation, a police team assigned to Police Post Wachi performed a routine checkpoint inspection in Naghard Wachi. Officers stopped a suspect identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Pombia Kulgam. They found 101 grams of charas-like substance in his possession, leading to the registration of a fresh case, FIR No. 78/2025 under the NDPS Act.
Simultaneously, authorities in Budgam arrested another suspected drug peddler during a routine check at Checkpora Kralpora. The individual, named Moomin Qadir Dhobi, hails from Dharambugh Kralpora and was caught with 112 grams of charas-like substance. The police have registered FIR No. 173/2025 under the NDPS Act at Police Station Chadoora, and investigations are continuing.
The consistent efforts of law enforcement agencies highlight the serious commitment to eradicating drug trafficking in Jammu and Kashmir, a region significantly affected by narcotics. Authorities encourage the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug trade.
Local residents have voiced their support for the ongoing police initiatives, indicating that such actions are necessary to ensure community safety and security. One resident expressed, “We appreciate the police’s efforts to control the drug menace in our area. It’s essential for the youth’s future.”
With an increasing number of such operations, police aim to strengthen public awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of community involvement. These actions not only target the suppliers but also aim to foster a safer environment for all, particularly the youth in Kashmir.
