Vande Bharat Train to Extend from Jammu to Srinagar Soon

The Railways Department has announced plans to extend the Vande Bharat train service from Jammu to Srinagar. This expansion will transition the train’s origin from Katra, connecting one of India’s most picturesque regions.

Divisional Railway Manager Jammu, Vivek Kumar, confirmed this development, stating that preparations are underway to expand this semi-high-speed service. The implementation faced delays due to severe damage to railway tracks from recent floods and incessant rains.

Kumar explained, “We are working on it. The delay occurred because of massive damage to tracks due to floods and heavy rains. But sooner or later, this service will be available to the people of Jammu.” Restoration work is progressing rapidly, and officials will launch the service once all safety clearances are in place.

Introduced earlier this year, the Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat service has significantly reduced travel time between the Valley and the base camp of the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. This upcoming extension to Jammu aims to further enhance regional connectivity, benefiting commuters, pilgrims, and tourists alike.

Once operational, the Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat service is expected to run daily, providing improved travel comfort while significantly shortening the journey compared to the existing rail and road options. The move is set to revolutionize travel in this picturesque region and improve the overall visitor experience.

The current Vande Bharat service between Katra and Srinagar has received positive feedback, particularly regarding its punctuality and modern amenities. Passengers have appreciated the enhanced comfort levels typical of the Vande Bharat train model.

The extension from Jammu to Srinagar aligns with the Indian government’s broader vision of enhancing rail connectivity across diverse regions, especially in areas with heavy pilgrimage traffic. As preparations conclude, it is clear that this initiative will support not only locals but also the growing number of tourists visiting Jammu and Kashmir.

The potential boost in tourism is significant, as experts believe easier access will enable more visitors to explore the rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes along the route. With plans advancing swiftly, many eagerly await the launch of this critical transport link.
