Meet a Young Student from Manigam Ganderbal, a Calligrapher in Demand

Calligraphy is a Stress Buster, It Brings Me Closer to Allah’

Ganderbal : A 12th-grade student from Manigam in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district has gained recognition for her calligraphy skills and now receives daily orders for her artwork.

Humaiara Manzoor, 18, a resident of Manigam, has sold dozens of calligraphy pieces. She enjoys creating more, as she believes it “releases the stress.”

In an interview with Humaiara shared that her interest in art began in primary school, when she participated in various art competitions. This early exposure sparked her passion for the craft.

“After passing the 10th-grade examination, I had limited time, but my passion for art pushed me to continue working on it,” she said.

Humaiara emphasized that her artwork has never interfered with her studies. In fact, it helps her focus better. “Whenever I feel stressed, I turn to calligraphy. After spending just half an hour on it, I feel like a new day has begun,” she explained, adding, “I am a self-taught calligrapher. I learned by watching videos of other calligraphers on YouTube and started practicing from there.”

Each calligraphy piece takes her about two hours to complete, and she sells them for Rs 500 each. “So far, I’ve sold over 40 pieces, and I receive more and more orders every week,” she said.

Humaiara is grateful for her family’s unwavering support. “My family supports me at every step, and I am truly thankful to them,” she added.
